Founded in the year 649 AD, the abbey of Saint-Wandrille is the oldest Benedictine monastery in France. In 2016, the monks launched their namesake beer and commissioned Grayling for the logo and label design. They wished the label to include the memorable coat of arms of the abbey gate, and so we worked delicately to translate the sculpted frieze into an illustration. Once the beer logo and label design were established, we extended the treatment to the honey-based cosmetics packaging – using the cloister window in a more simplified treatment – but maintaining the Saint-Wandrille typographic language.
